Morning: Juyongguan Great Wall (2-3 hours)

Juyongguan is one of the three greatest passes of the Great Wall of China. Nestled in a deep valley between two mountains, it has a strategic military location. The ancient architecture here is well-preserved, with imposing watchtowers and thick walls.

As you walk along the ramparts, you'll be amazed by the engineering marvel of the ancient Chinese. The surrounding landscape, with its lush greenery in spring and autumn and snow-capped mountains in winter, offers breathtaking views. 

Lunch

A local restaurant near the Great Wall area. You can savor a delicious Chinese meal, including a variety of local specialties. Your guide can help you with ordering and introduce you to the different dishes.

Afternoon: the Sacred Way and Ming Tombs (3-4 hours)

The Sacred Way is an impressive stone-paved road that leads to the Ming Tombs. Along the way, you'll see a series of stone statues of animals and officials, which were built to guard the tombs. These statues are exquisitely carved and showcase the high level of craftsmanship of the Ming Dynasty. 

The Ming Tombs are a complex of imperial tombs where 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty were buried. The most famous one is the Dingling Tomb, which is the only tomb that has been excavated.  You can see the underground palace, which houses the coffins of the emperor and his empresses. Your guide will explain the history and culture behind the tombs, as well as the architectural features. 

The private vehicle will take you back to your hotel in Beijing.

Is Juyongguan Great Wall suitable for hiking?

Yes! Juyongguan is a circular loop. It is steeper than Mutianyu, offering a more challenging and rewarding climb with spectacular views of the fort.

Can we go inside the tombs?

We visit Dingling, the only Ming tomb that has been fully excavated. You can descend 27 meters underground into the massive stone vaults.

Why visit the Sacred Way?

It's the "Road to Heaven." The 18 pairs of stone statues are incredible for photography and represent the supreme dignity of the Ming emperors.
